10 Books I Hope to Finally Get to This Summer...
Now that June is underway my brain can finally think summer... the end of the school year as a mom is crazy and chaotic, and summer just looms laughing and waiting to smack me upside the head. But I think I am ready... the big events are scheduled for the kiddos, travel plans are mostly figured out for some fun excursions, and even a vague weekly plan has been put into place - we are creatures of habit here, we need a bit of structure.
So that means it's time to figure out my summer reading list!
In the past I've taken tips from the Modern Mrs. Darcy - picking from her summer suggestion lists, or working on her yearly reading list ideas... and after a few years, I've decided, I am just not into the same books as her audience. Which is a shame really because I love her blog posts, I just don't fall head over heels for most contemporary fiction, or modern literary books - which seem to be where she likes to live. But the joy of reading is that there are choices available for all interests, and we can even change our minds... over and over if we want!
This summer I am going to tackle 10 books that have been collecting dust in my TBR on Goodreads... and my actual TBR that I don't keep on there so that the number doesn't show people just how crazy I really am...
10 Books to Read this Summer from My TBR...
- After a few years now, I am agreeing to read the Game of Thrones books because my husband has been begging me... so this counts as four right? Five? Oh... just checked... five... well awesome that's half the list... alright... I'll count these as one.
- And because it's been a while since I picked up a nonfiction just for my own good, I'll dig out Sacred Marriage and give it a try this summer. I have been so burned out on the Christian "self-help" type books that I have been avoiding them like they might contain the plague, but my marriage is important... and everyone raves about this one... so I guess this summer might be the time?
- If you didn't already know, I have been spending a ton of my social media time on Instagram, because the world of bookstagram is just awesome. And so many of those lovely book lovers just adore The Kiss of Deception - I believe it's a trilogy - and I just grabbed a copy for the Kindle on sale!
- I have a hold on the audiobook of the Matched series by Ally Condie, which has been lurking in my TBR for eons probably... and since I had to put a hold on the audio, I'm guessing it's still popular... so yeah.. oh and that's another trilogy... this is getting much longer than just 10 books... uh oh...
- And since I'm talking about books I already have on hold for the summer, I'm waiting for The Raven Boys as well... I gave this book a try almost three years ago and just could not get into it... I wasn't feeling the fantasy YA genre then like I am now... so here's hoping this time it goes better...
- And because Summer just wouldn't be Summer without some "chick-lit" I am going to try and get my hands on Anna and the French Kiss... yes, I have yet to read this one! I feel like an imposter even admitting it, but you know life happens.
- And now it's time for some semi-cheating... I have started Six of Crows, so that is going to be a summer read...
- I am planning on finally wrapping up Talking as Fast as I Can - I have been lingering on this one because I am just a Lauren Graham fangirl... it's funny and I don't want it to end...
- In order to be prepared for the next book release, I have to get through Empire of Storms, but I am buddy reading that, so it almost doesn't count... love buddy reading... you should try it.
- Finally, let's go with Behind the Scenes... this gorgeous cover mocks me on my shelves because I want to pick it up, yet, I don't... so this summer is the time!
Alright... I lost count... how many books is that actually??? It might be more than 20 books! What am I thinking??? Clearly, summer is the time for reading... do you think my three kids will agree?

That's awesome! Everyone raves over it... I hope I love it...
DeleteI liked the Throne of Glass book, haven't gone beyond the first one though unfortunately. Game of Thrones was good, but it is friggin DEPRESSING!! Sickening sometimes, totally worth reading, but not for the faint of heart.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing at #bloggerspotlight, pinned!
Yes, I have been well prepared for just how graphic Game of Thrones is... and the Throne of Glass series is good - which is why so many of my bookish friends want me to read Game of Thrones... similar writing styles I'm told (though not as graphic)
DeleteI'm kind of in a reading slump right now. My littlest one just stopped nursing so I haven't really found a new reading time. I know I will, but I don't know if it will happen this summer. We shall see... Thanks for sharing this at Booknificent Thursday on Mommynificent.com this week!

It can be a struggle... I had to find a new rhythm too... maybe try audio books until you can sit and read? Although reading to our kids should totally count as our reading time as mamas some days
DeleteI love comments!!
Let me know what you thought of this one... don't forget to share your blog link so I can stop by!
