Ten Books I Put on My TBR Ten Years Ago
Who else remembers those questions in high school, and in college to a lesser extent, about "where do you see yourself in 10 years"? I guess they happen in job interviews too.
And we answer some dream of the future.
It never fails that the next day we forget all about that particular dream as we get caught up in the now again. But before we know it, the future, is the now. And the speed of life keeps us moving forward.
Every year I try to look back at the goals I set for myself as fall sets in, as a way to encourage attainable goal setting for the new year. It gives me a little bit to try to wrap up any goals that I almost finished, and to figure out how to proceed into the next year. And this process has been helping me to keep some of those big "ten year" dreams alive... but since this is my bookish space, I figured it would be a fun throwback to see which books I put on my TBR 10 years ago, and if they are still sitting there... which I am guessing a bunch are as that was the year I got married!! So there wasn't a ton of reading going on amongst all the planning.
Ten Books I Put on My TBR in 2007
- Shopoholic & Baby by Sophie Kinsella; published February 2007 – I loved these books when they were originally released and know I devoured this right away.
2. City of Bones by Cassandra Clare; published March 2007 – I just read this book, and am currently reading book two… so clearly I am late to this party!
3. The Children of Hurin by JRR Tolkien; published April 2007 – I read this one in 2008, but I bought it as a Christmas present that year for my new husband… we have always been book people.
4. The Shack by William Paul Young; published July 2007 – This is still on my TBR but I’m not sure I’ll ever read it, the genre is too predictable for me right now, but it was so popular when it came out… plus now there’s a movie… it could be there for another ten years
5. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by JK Rowling; published July 2007 – I read this entire series in 2008 for the first time as part of my last English course in college!
6. Eclipse by Stephanie Meyer; published August 2007 – I have actually read this entire series, but not until like 2015 or so
7. The Zookeeper’s Wife by Diane Ackerman; published September 2007 – so I wanted to read this, I still want to read it… but it just sits there on my TBR
8. The Choice by Nicholas Sparks; published September 2007 – I believe I finally read this one during a beach trip in 2009… and this would be when Sparks stopped being interesting to me… it was clear he wasn’t actually writing these books anymore… major bummer for younger me.
9. Beastly by Alex Flinn; published October 2007 – I didn’t realize this book is so old, but I do want to read it… eventually…
10. Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher; published October 2007 – I also read this right after it was released in college, so win!

Thank you, The Broke & the Bookish for this fun weekly prompt and chance to interact with the Bookish Blogger community.
Putting together this list has made me think about what my TBR will look like in 10 years from now... I wonder if I'll be reading this much then? I hope so! So much can change in 10 years...

Wow, hold up. Is Nicholas Sparks not writing his own stuff anymore?
ReplyDeleteI have been told he has ghostwriters that step in for the bulk of the writing... haven't you noticed they aren't as good?
DeleteI love comments!!
